7.7 Forecast

Good morning Gorge sports fanatics! I just want to say that I had a fantastic time sailing out at Arlington with all of you windsurfers and kiters yesterday! It was a beautiful sunny, windy day, and it was awesome to see a big crowd on the water!

Today looks like another windy one on the river. Marine clouds reformed over the Northwest last night, setting up the western clouds and desert sunshine. That’s a recipe for westerlies. Morning gradients were at .07 from Portland to The Dalles and winds were already in the low teens through the Gorge As the desert warms and a shortwave crosses the area midday, winds climb. Watch for 24-27 from Mosier out to Arlington this afternoon. My pick? Doug’s and Rowena. If you stay in Hood River, under the clouds, you’ll have gusty 15-19 for much of the day.

As an upper level low rotates off the coast tomorrow, marine clouds flow back into Portland, setting up another windy day in the Gorge. That low will send little shortwaves across the Gorge, making the forecast timing difficult. Basically, we’ll see 18-22 or a little better through the Gorge on Wednesday.

At this point, Thursday is looking light and cool, but the light wind part of that forecast could change.

If you’re looking for fun stuff to do this week, remember that you can always skip the outdoors stuff and throw a dinner party for your favorite friends. I recommend cooking Rgatoni.

Okay... whatever you do today, have an awesome day!
