Morning everyone!
Gorge westerlies are going to rage for the next three days. We have light wind this morning, but don’t worry. High pressure builds at the coast and a front forces its way into Oregon later, sending even more clouds into Portland and wind into the Gorge. By midday today, we’ll see 21-24 from Stevenson to Hood River. By late afternoon or early evening, winds climb into the 28-32 range out to the desert. A quick warning: summer frontal event tends are short-lived in the corridor and nice at Arlington, and sometimes this type of wind event never materializes on the water. And by the way, I have no idea why there are so many clouds this morning. I expected a nice cloud line, not a winter-like covering.
Tomorrow looks good. Chilly clouds bury P-town in grey, but we’ll start off with mid twenties Dawn Patrol, with 28-32 by afternoon, east of the cloudline. Not being psychic, I don’t know where that will be, but I’m guessing we’ll kite and sail from the corridor to Maryhill. Sunday looks like a carbon copy of Saturday.
Kiteboarders and spectators, come to the Hood River Sandbar today. Top-tier pro riders ride funboxes, rails and sliders. Tonight at the sandbar there’s a huge party hosted by Second Wind and IPS skate shop. There’s a dumptruck load of snow, DJs, Bands, free schwag and a radical rail-jam competition. Seriously, you’ve gotta be at the sandbar tonight!
Coming up this weekend, we have a flurry of events. On Saturday, there’s the White Salmon trail half-marathon. This is a free, off-road event. The start is at Everybody’s brewing at 8am. Also Saturday is the Dirty Fingers Ladyfinger bike ride. Meet at 10 Speed West Coffee Shop at 8:30am for coffee. Ride starts at 9am. It’s going to be a 2ish hour ride at a casual pace. Girls only for the ladyfinger ride! Saturday is National Surf Day, so a trip to the coast isn’t out of order. Or… it’s going to be windy enough in the Gorge to catch some waves, if you know where to find them. Finally, also on Saturday is Weed n’ Feed day at the Hood River Waterfront Park.
Boaters, some love: The Hood’s at 3.9 feet, the White Salmon’s at 3.1 feet and the Little White’s at 460 cfs.
Whatever you do today and tonight, have an awesome time!
