6.14 Forecast

Morning everyone!

West winds continue today, despite interference from an upper level low over the Northwest. Building high pressure at the coast fights with the low to keep marine clouds piled in Portland and increase gorge gradients. Morning gradients were up over the last few days, with .12 the early reading. It was blowing 26 at the Hatchery early, but dropping gradients are making me question the wind strength today. I'll still go with 23-26 with possible 25-29 later in the day. Winds should spread eastward out to Arlington this afternoon, for sailable/kiteable conditions all the way from the Corridor to the Desert.

That 26 reading really got me excited for some Corridor sailing, but it's down to 23 now and I'm thinking I might go back to sleep! Too early in the morning and not enough coffee in my system to sail 23 mph. =)

A shortwave crosses Oregon tonight, kicking low pressure eastward and allowing high pressure to build at the coast. We’ll start off  Monday with 23-26, maybe a little more, from Hood River out to Doug’s.

That low pressure trough finally dissipates completely on Tuesday, for another westerly day in the Gorge. At this point, it’s looking like 17-20, but we may end up with stronger winds.

If you’re a mountain bikers jonesing for dirt today, you have plenty of trails open and ready to go. There’s just one thing you need to know: Hospital Hill is closed to all biking and hiking until June 22nd. Please respect the landowners’ wishes. They generously let us use their land most of the year, so please ride somewhere else until the 22nd!

Boaters, the Hood’s at 4.2 feet, the White Salmon’s at 3.5 feet, the Little White’s at 520 cfs, and the Wind River’s at 410.

Whatever you do today, have an awesome day!
