5.30

Mountain biking gets the top of the bill today, Why? Because all you mountain bikers are going to help rebuild the Whoopdee trail today. Meet at the China Gorge park-n-ride at 8:30 for a caravan to the trailhead. Bring shovels, tools, food, water, and your friends. I’d like to take this chance to say thank you, on behalf of all mountain bikers, to SDS Lumber for making this happen.

Columbia Gorge off-road association is also having a work party on the #140 trail today. Throw your dirt bike on the trailer and go exactly 4.1 miles up Riorden Hill Road. Park where you see all the cars. There’s a group ride at 1pm to break in the new trail.

You’ll need to feed yourself before all this work, so head to the White Salmon firehouse for the annual pancake breakfast. It starts at 6am, so you’ll have plenty of time to make your preferred work party.

Windsurfers and kiters, the wind forecast. It’s another light start as an upper low rotates off the southern Oregon coast and high pressure blankets the Norhtwest. However, we do have a .07 gradient at 7am, and that's not a bad start (check windonthewater.com if you're like me and can't access iWindsurf right now). We’ll see some thermal wind by mid-morning; 17-20 or so from Stevenson to Hood River, maybe a little stronger. Tomorrow looks like a carbon copy of today. For what it’s worth, southerly upper flow could spark thunderstorms either day, making wind gusty and unpredictable.

Boaters, the Hood’s at 5.3 feet, the White Salmon’s at 4.7 feet, the Little White’s at 740 cfs and the Wind River’s at 700 cfs.

Whatever you do today, have an awesome time!
