5.16 Forecast (sort of forecast)

Good morning Gorge sports fanatics and happy Victoria Day weekend!

My pick of the day today is Hood River Ranger District’s Free Youth Fishing Clinic. Bring your fishing rod or borrow one... the pond is stocked and the hot dogs are cookin’. That’s 8-1 at Middle Fork Pond in Parkdale. It’s also open house day at The Dalles Rifle Club. That’s 10-2. Just b ring an open mind. Guns, ammo, bows and arrows, and refreshments are provided. If you’re a kiter, windsurfer or biker, this is your chance to check out something totally different.

Actually, to tell the truth, my pick of the day is the gun club, but I couldn't really say that on the radio. Unfortunately, I've committed to rock climbing today, so I'm not going to have a chance to try shooting a high-powered rifle or 9mm pistol.

Can you tell the wind forecast isn’t good today?

Windsurfers and kiters, it is going to be a glassy day on the river. Your best chance for wind this weekend is late tomorrow afternoon. NOAA’s calling for a late-in-the-day marine push. If it happens, we’ll see 15-18 from Stevenson to Hood River, starting around 3:30pm or so. The wind looks a little stronger on Monday, but still not epic. If you’re hoping for coastal wind, try the central coast. 15-20 today and 20-25 tomorrow. But... there’s only a 3 foot swell or so.

Since it’s not windy today, head over to the Hatchery for a CGWA work party. Windsurfers and kiters are welcome to donate some hard labor from 9am ‘til noon.

Tomorrow is the Windance swap meet, and also the Mosier Twin tunnels running race.

And finally, if you’re looking for something to do tonight, head to the River City for 2nd Wind’s season opener Bob Marley party!

And whatever you do today, have an awesome day!
