If you’re a windsurfer or kiter, get on the water today. By tomorrow, high pressure builds over the Northwest, shutting off Gorge. Today we'ss have wind. An upper level low is crossing Washington, and as soon as it hits the desert, winds will climb. A southerly cant today favors Doug’s, Avery, Arlington and Threemile for windsurfing. You can try the Wall if you insist, but it’s going to be gusty with super strong current. I expect 30-34 east of John Day today, with 65 degree air temp. There was big swell at Arlington on Tuesday, so it should be big again today. I highly recommend making the drive!
There is some inconsistency in the models. Graphical models suggest 35-40, but written forecast discussions claim that onshore flow will die off early. I suggest going windsurfing or kiting as soon as windspeeds pick up. No lollygagging around in bed or at coffee. Just throw your gear in the car and go.
Tomorrow looks warm and sunny, but not windy. At this point, the weekend also looks warm and sunny, but not windy. Since you can’t windsurf or kiteboard without wind Saturday, join CGWA for a work party at the Hatchery. It’s your beach, and this is your chance to make it better. Meet at the Hatch at 9am Saturday. Sunday is swap meet day at Windance. Actually, saying no wind at all is a little pessimistic. It looks like we may get some light thermals in the 15-18 range late Saturday afternoon.
Bikers, today might or might not be the Post and Pint ride. Since it poured rain yesterday, it’s probably not going to happen, but give Dirty Fingers a call to find out. If there’s no ride, there will be bicyclist socialization at Dirty Fingers this evening. It’s a bike shop... no, it’s a hangout joint... no, it’s both!
All joking aside, please let the mountain bike trails rest today. They are very muddy. In a couple of days, though, the mountain biking is going to be single-track-tackular. (Thanks to Mitchell for that one)
Don’t forget, it’s still bike to work week in Hood River. Keep riding, and you’ll earn free coffee and donuts on Friday morning. Good biker. Good donuts. Bad biker, no donuts. Do your four required errands by bicycle, and then show up at 2nd and State at 7:30 tomorrow morning for free coffee, free raffle prizes and, yes, free donuts. Remember that the cop shop is just across the street, so you'll have to hurry if you want the free donuts (sorry Mason)...
Whatever you do today, have an awesome day!
