Windsurfing and kiteboarding opportunities abound over the next few days. Today brings gusty desert westerlies in the 24-28 range later on, after the cold front clears the central Gorge. High pressure builds overnight tonight, turning winds 180 degrees. Easterlies kick in tomorrow morning in the 24-28 range. Sunday looks calm as zen monk on the river.
Coast winds will be light this weekend, so no kiting and windsurfing out there, but the surf will be amazing. Magic Seaweed says four stars for both Saturday and Sunday, with 11.5 feet at 12 seconds on Saturday and 6.5 feet at 11 seconds on Sunday. If you're a surfer, you probably know this already, because you surfers watch the forecasts more obsessively than even windsurfers.
In the biking world, trails are mighty wet right now. Dirty Fingers ran the Post n Pint last night, and reports sloppy conditions on our favorite local trail. Let Post Canyon rest for a couple of days, if you can bear to. Syncline, however, is waiting for you now. By Sunday, Post Canyon should be plenty dry for your riding pleasure. Once again, dogs are NOT ALLOWED on Hospital Hill until the Kreps are done moving their cows around. Please respect the wishes of the landowners and leave your pup at home.
Saturday brings dueling bike events. If you ride Post Canyon, it’s your duty Saturday to come to the work party. 9 am at the bottom of the gravel road. If you use the Earth, it’s your duty to participate in Columbia Gorge Earth Center’s Super-Commuter-Freestyle-Bike Race. This makes for a difficult choice. Either way, you can’t go wrong.
