First, I'd like to apologize again for GoDaddy's incompetence. This blog keeps crashing, because their server has issues. I suggest nobody use GoDaddy for their website hosting. It wouldn't be a problem, except that I can't post forecasts if the blog is down. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Anyway, it looks like windsurfing season is open, given the number of people windsurfing last Sunday while I was driving to the Wallowas.
If you've been thinking about windsurfing or kiteboarding, you'll get more chances to hit the water this weekend. Sort of. The strongest wind will be with the passage of an unseasonably strong front overnight. We'll see powerful winds late this afternoon, overnight, and into tomorrow morning in the 30-35+ range. It's hard to predict the location of winds with frontal passages, but I can almost guarantee Arlington. Anywhere else, and you'll have to check windonthewater.com to see if it's windy.
The strength of this front is problematic. When it slams into Oregon and Washington, it's going to blast Mt. Hood with nuclear-force winds. The 10-20 inches of snow with this system will be fantastic, but you're going to have to hit wind-sheltered areas for the best skiing and snowboarding. It's already averaging near 30 at Meadows, and winds are only going to pick up later in the day. If you want to ski or ride today, go early at Meadows before the brunt of the system hits, or be prepared for very windy conditions.
Winds will start backing off tomorrow, leaving piles of precious March powder tomorrow morning.
March madness continues for the start of next week, with lighter winds and a few inches of new snow every day through Wednesday at least.
See you on the mountain and on the water, and don't forget to smile while you're playing!
Oh, and if you set me up with someone (I am over being single!), I will give you free cookies every week for as long as the relationship lasts. Requirements: must tele or windsurf or backcountry ski or generally participate in cool outdoor activities. Must be an intelligent 33-44 year old guy. Nothing like using the forecast to get a date... =)
