Good morning skier/snowboarder/telemark slackers! Today we have a report of "epic" snow from a secret inside source at Meadows. 16" of new in the last 24, 8" of that since they closed yesterday, and somewhere between 10" and 24" of new predicted for today. Quite frankly, however, if you can only pick one day, my suggestion is for you to pick tomorrow.
Why? Well, because the entire state of Oregon is headed to Meadows today. Most will give up early with the increasing wind later in the day, but it's still going to be crowded. Will this dissuade me from skiing today? Hell no! I looooooooooooooooooove powder. I looooooooooooooove skiing. I just love the whole experience.
Time for tangential rant: If you are not having a good time on the mountain. That is, if you find the need to grumble in the lift line, swear at people while you ski next to them, try and pass people on steep sections of the Ho-Chi-Minh trail, yell at Guest Hosts or Ski Patrollers, or just generally be negative on the mountain, PLEASE DON'T COME. You ruin everyone else's good vibes. If you're on the mountain, you are there because you want to be. You're doing something FUN. You're not at work, and you're not dealing with the shit that's making you down when you're not in your boots. SMILE, damnit, and pretend like you're having a good time, even if you are having a terrible day. Just smiling will make you have more fun, and it will make people around you smile too! End of rant.
It's windy on Mt. Hood today, and the wind will increase as the day goes on. This means different things to different people. It means the powder will blow back into the tracks. It means you will want to get up there early. It means you will want to wear an extra layer. It means... ah hell.. I'm tired of talking about skiing and snowboarding and telemarking. Go to the mountain today!
And tomorrow, especially tomorrow. And Tuesday.
Have a super-awesome-really-really-really great day in the snow today!
