Blizzard Warning and Please take the survey

Hi everyone,

(I just can't resist trying to get you guys interested in this one!!!)

First, I'm trying to see if there's interest in a ski shuttle from Hood River to Mt. Hood Meadows. The mountain HAS NOT asked me to do this. I'm just curious. Please take the time to answer the two questions in the survey in this link: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=4KR2xo9h7HgludHt06qnvA_3d_3d

Second, if you haven't been to the Hood River Weather website, you should go there:
http://webpages.charter.net/hoodriverweather/weather.htm

There's a chat box where all the weather dorks, myself included, can weather dork out.

But really, I am writing so you can read the following forecast from NOAA. I know not everyone reads the NOAA forecast discussions. You must read this, just because it's so cool. I've never seen a blizzard warning posted here before. Usually the east winds shut off when the snow arrives (has to do with westerly flow associated with an approaching front):

...BLIZZARD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM SATURDAY TO 4 AM
PST MONDAY FOR THE WESTERN COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE...

A BLIZZARD WARNING FOR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM
10 AM SATURDAY TO 4 AM PST MONDAY.

A STRONG MOISTURE LADEN PACIFIC FRONTAL SYSTEM WILL MOVE INTO THE
WESTERN COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE SATURDAY THROUGH MONDAY. THIS SYSTEM
HAS CONSIDERABLE MOISTURE ASSOCIATED WITH IT...AND HAS THE
POTENTIAL TO DROP SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW OVER THE AREA.
SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 8 TO 14 INCHES CAN BE EXPECTED. THE HEAVIEST
SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED TO BE SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY MORNING.

THIS SYSTEM ALSO WILL BE ACCOMPANIED BY VERY STRONG EAST WINDS OF
25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 50 MPH...CREATING BLIZZARD CONDITIONS.

(Temira would not be surprised to see stronger winds at Rooster Rock)

A BLIZZARD WARNING MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE
EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. FALLING AND BLOWING SNOW WITH STRONG WINDS
AND POOR VISIBILITIES ARE LIKELY. THIS WILL LEAD TO WHITEOUT
CONDITIONS...MAKING TRAVEL EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. DO NOT TRAVEL. IF
YOU MUST TRAVEL...HAVE A WINTER SURVIVAL KIT WITH YOU. IF YOU GET
STRANDED...STAY WITH YOUR VEHICLE.

This is so cool! Please cancel your plans to drive to Portland on I-84 the next couple of days. It's going to be VERY dangerous, assuming they don't close the highway.
I am assuming they will close 84. Also, there will be plenty of blowing snow on the way to Meadows. Leave extra time for that drive as well. The powder, however, is going to be epic. I recommend taking Monday off.

Love you all!
