Friday Holiday Weekend Forecast

Hi everyone!

I know it looks dismal outside right now, as far as wind goes, but don't worry. Get some work done this morning so you have time for the river this afternoon. Several things are working in our favor today. First, the thermal trough (low pressure) crawls across the state this morning, setting up in the eastern Gorge by midday. Second, a cold front approaches the coast late, sending clouds into Portland (actually, there's already marine deck in Portland, leaving the city feeling like Hood River in a winter inversion). Third, high pressure (maybe the elusive North Pacific High) builds over the Pacific this afternoon. As these happy factors come into play, winds climb. 17-20 by noon and 22-26 in the afternoon. I wouldn't be surprised to see a bit more wind than that, but I can't make promises about frontal winds. We'll probably see (as this is a frontal thing, again) a couple of good hours at the Hatchery, followed by a shift to Doug's and Maryhill. I wouldn't be surprised to see Arlington make 22-25 later (for you desert dwellers).

With high pressure building at the coast, winds should be more westerly than of late, making for less gusty conditions.

The cold front passes the Gorge overnight. Winds will be 21-24 early tomorrow (east of whatever low clouds remain), fading midday, and climbing back into the 25-28 range in the afternoon. It's going to be a bit chilly: low seventies for highs over the weekend. CGWA is having a party at the Event Site. I can't seem to get details (times, etc), but Katie (the director) knows how to throw a party. Go check it out.

High pressure hangs off the coast Sunday as a cold low pressure trough sets up over Oregon and Washington. 21-25 to start. 25-28 later. There's a swap meet at the Expo Center parking lot on Sunday morning. Cross your fingers it's not raining.

And hey, if it rains, you can go mountain biking. The trails are in great shape right now.

Have a great day!
