Waves, Waves, Waves

Hello sailors!

The most pressing info today is this: Tonight marks the Perseid meteor shower peak. Now, I’m not recommending that you break curfew, but this is a stunning show. You’ll have to be on your back watching the stars at 4am to see the peak, but it should be well worth it. Watch the northern sky for up to 60 meteors and fireballs per minute.

But that’s your evening plans… Today will be windy. This is the last westerly for a bit, so get on the water if windsports are your cup of tea. The gradient is .05 already, despite the glassy conditions on the river. By midday, we’ll see 15-19 and by late afternoon, we’ll have 22-26 from Stevenson to Maryhill. With upper flow westerly, I’m picking the corridor for best conditions today. That's possibly wishful thinking, or possibly me testing a new theory. Anyway, it shouldn't be too gusty with flow from the west, and if it gets fluky after 3, just head to Doug's and Rowena.

Tomorrow morning sees the last of the westerlies. By midday, high pressure builds overhead, stifling the stirring air. Don’t despair: the coast blows 20 knots or better with a 5 foot swell for both Wednesday and Thursday. Cross your fingers for Friday at the coast. A fresh 8 foot swell hits early for TGIF.

I'm really crossing my fingers. I would be soooooooo happy to go sail logo- to mast-high waves for my Friday pleasure. Plus... that means I get to stop at Uwajimaya and pick up longons, lilikoi and lychee on the way home!

Have a great day everyone! And cross your fingers that it blows for me between noon and 4pm, when I have to go to work.
