Hello sailors!
Why is it that I have time to write the forecast during the weakest week of the summer?
I'd really like to be telling you about high pressure off the coast and 100 degree heat in the desert. Instead, I'm telling you about 95 degree heat all over the place. The only place with wind potential today is Jones Beach, sitting at the edge of this morning's weak marine push. I can't guarantee anything there (and I wouldn't recommend sailing there, as all the beautiful sand on the beach is dredged from the bottom of the Columbia and probably teeming with hard metals and Portland's refuse), but it's worth watching if you are desperate.
So.... High pressure is smothering the Gorge right now, bringing dry heat and wakeboarding conditions. Cathy? Hey, Cathy, are you there? It's me, Temira. (sorry about that, everyone). Dan? Dan? Dan? Rick's in town, and I'm sure he'd love to go wakeboarding. (oops. Sorry again.)
As I was saying. High pressure parked overhead is killing the wind right now. High pressure shifts east tomorrow allowing low pressure to fill in from the coast. Upper flow turns S/SE, setting up thunderstorm conditions. That also means no wind. A shortwave MAY move through late tomorrow, setting up light west breezes, but I am not counting on that for my fun.
Looks like the trend will break on Thursday or Friday, as the marine layer returns. Friday night/Saturday morning sees a front cross the Gorge. Saturday should be decent out here... finally....
In the meantime, head down to Double Mountain tonight and drink some beer! This is a benefit for the Waterfront Community Park Association. I believe $1 from each pint goes to the park. Consider this your yearly dues to the park... or better yet, just go down to DM and make a donation to the Association. The park they built is amazing (between the Hood and Luhr Jensen, if you don't already know), and it's our job to say thanks by kicking down a few dollars.... especially if the few dollars buys a beer as well. Speaking of... be careful drinking that DM beer. It's very strong. I drink half a beer and I'm tipsy! (but then again, I drink anything and I'm tipsy. That's why they call me "Two Beers")
Stay out of trouble today!
Temira
