Spacey Temira will try harder

Hi everyone! (Monday)

There was a stretch of a couple of weeks last year when an upper level low took up semi-permanent residence off the Oregon Coast. High clouds drifted over the Gorge and the wind shut off. It looked like the low was never going to leave, and I said so in the report. One of my friends shot me back an email saying, "yours is the most depressing forecast ever."

We have a similar problem right now. High pressure blankets the PNW, with the exception of along the coast, where a weak low pressure trough sits. Gradients are minimal across the region, and that means no wind. I was expecting some easterlies in Stevenson, but they haven't materialized yet. We may see 20ish tomorrow and Wednesday, or we may not. Coastal winds look light, and waves are small. This pattern remains through Wednesday (well, NOAA is saying Friday, but I'm trying to be more cheerful than they are) at least.

Come tomorrow afternoon, upper flow turns southerly, bringing thunderheads to the region. We'll then have mid-nineties and humidity. Yippee!

On a brighter note, the weather will be plenty hot for relaxing sun-tanning. Remember to wear strong sunscreen, even if you are trying to get tan.

My suggestion is that you work as much as possible over the next few days. Head to Portland, run your errands, and have a delicious lunch of something you can't eat in the Gorge. If you're already in Portland, head to the movie theatre to watch an air-conditioned film (preferably with subtitles... better to engage the whole mind).

I'm sorry I don't have better news for you today. For what it's worth, the blackberry picking is great right now.

Have a great day!

Temira
