Good morning Gorge wind addicts. Take heart. Don’t be fooled by the light winds this morning. You’ll be on the water late this evening if that’s what you’re after. I can’t guarantee quality wind (more later), but it will blow. The rest of you have perfect conditions this morning for whatever sport your little hearts desire.
So really, It’s a veritable cornucopia of delicious activities today. Kayakers, your numbers are: the Hood at 1530cfs, the White Salmon at 4.8 feet, and the Little White at 829cfs.
Road riders have easy cruising this morning with light winds. Today’s road bike suggestion is the BZ Corners to Glenwood loop. That’s about a 45 mile ride out of the wind’s path. Be sure to take plenty of water, as it’s going to be toasty warm again. For what it's worth, Lost Lake road IS open... thank my boss at Abruzzo for yesterday's incorrect information. So, here's some free advertising for the resort up there: When it gets way to hot down in the valley during summer heat waves, head up to Lost Lake for cooler camping. Not only is it a great place to party in a tent, it's a great place to fish, rent a boat, or just plain cool off. OK... I don't really feel better about dissing them yesterday, but that's a start.
Windsurfers and kiters, listen in. Our ship sails out of the doldrums this afternoon. Unfortunately, the picture is complicated by potential thunderstorms, heat in Portland, and the possibility of the expected front not passing til evening. I’m concerned the wind won’t blow until it’s dark. Find something else to do this morning, and starting around 2pm, keep an eye on the Maryhill and Arlington sensors at the free website, windonthewater.com. If everything sets up right, we’ll see 30ish at Arlington this evening. If not, well… cherry picking at The Wall, maybe? If the wind picks up in time to sail Arlington, I'll be demoing small Hot Sails out there. You can use any sail except the one I'm using. =)
Tomorrow looks like a better bet for wind. Marine layer to the west and low pressure to the east. That’s a good setup for the Gorge.
