6.7 Early Marnin's Forecast

Good morning everyone!

Yesterday's inconsistent Arlington wind seemed like a good impetus for me to go for a trail run. I headed over to Post Canyon, my old standby. Can I recommend you not do the same? Post Canyon is more like a slip-and-slide than a trail right now. If you feel the need to go for a bike ride today, Hospital Hill is a better bet. FYI, Nestor Peak is supposedly a slippery, slimy mess as well.

Or you could just go windsurfing today. Arlington is already blowing 29, and with gradients at 10,10, and 26, wind will blow all day long just about everywhere. The only place that's going to miss out, unfortunately, is the Hatchery. No repeats of Super Thursday today. Marine clouds made it past the Cascade Guard overnight, forcing their fluffy little selves all the way to Maryhill. Looks like Arlington is your best bet, but anywhere east of Mosier will blow 28-32 by afternoon. There is still a minuscule chance clouds will burn back enough to make the Hatchery happen, but I'd call that a 10 percent chance at the very best.

Another front sneaks through tonight. Sunday starts off with 15-18, dies midday, and comes back to 19-23 in the evening (probably Doug's) as another (cold, wintry, rainy) front approaches.

Models are having trouble with Monday. It appears we'll have an upper level low off the coast and a strong cold front passing through the Gorge. It's likely we'll see another 28-32 day at Arlington, but we'll have to wait and see on the timing.

Finally, I'd like to take a quick moment to say goodbye to Early Marnin'. Earle was a Cheap Beach regular, always parking his beat-up white Subaru at the east end of the beach under the trees. I didn't know Earle very well, but I have one distinct memory of him standing at Cheap, hair flying in the wind, grinning at the river and everyone around him. Earle was always smiling at the beach, as best as I can remember, and that's something we can all take as inspiration from his life. A memorial service will be held at Cheap Beach at 6pm on Monday.

Have a good day everyone.
