Good morning sailors!
I waited and waited and waited yesterday, and when the wind finally came up around 3pm at Arlington, I'd given up. Or given in, actually. This flu is kicking my butt. All I want to do is lie in bed. That doesn't make me a very good windsurfer or a very chipper forecaster.
Today, though, I will sail. So will you. At the Hatch, no less. NOAA is calling for weakened flow as the day goes on, but I'm not going along with that game plan. With .11 gradient to start the day and a massive cloud deck (and mini showers) west of my window, I'm calling WINDY. Look for Doug's to be the hot spot (argh)... no, cold spot, as snow levels are at pass levels and it's damn cold out there today... windy spot... whatever. Upper twenties this afternoon. Cross your fingers that building high pressure can bust up the clouds in Hood River. If so, we're going to see 26-29 at the Hatchery as well. Yippee.
Plus, the sailboat races are going to be awesome tonight! If you know what you are doing (or you aren't prone to panicking when things go drastically wrong on a big boat), come along.
We start the day tomorrow with winds in the 15-18 range, but another (is summer ever coming?) front crashes the Gorge party in the evening. Before it hits (mid afternoon), Stevenson and Doug's take the brunt of the wind. Usually pre-frontal winds skip the Corridor, so I'll stick with that scenario tomorrow. 3pm rise to 22-24 at Stevenson and Doug's. Gusty nothing in the Corridor (this is sure to make this the one pre-frontal event with corridor wind).
Post-frontal winds Friday bring Dawn Patrol from Doug's eastward. With a bit of a thermal bump, we'll see 25-29 by midday all through the eastern Gorge.
See you on the water!
