5.24 Forecast?

Good morning sailors,

First, a correction. The work party at the Hatchery starts at 9am, not at noon. Noon is the expected finishing time. So... you're not doing anything else except sitting at a coffee shop keeping your insides warm, right? Go over to the Hatchery and lend a hand. (I'm sitting at a coffee shop... Doppio, to be specific)

My friends, I don't have much good to say about wind for the next few days. Upper level lows bracket the Gorge to the east and to the west. We're surrounded. Gradients can't develop, and without gradients, there can be no wind.

Monday looks like our next best chance. Weak high pressure builds off the coast, creating isobars across the Gorge. At this point, wind strengths looks marginal, but let's cross our fingers, ok?

If you're looking for something fun to do today, go for a mountain bike ride. Post Canyon is a slippery mess, but the front side of Hospital Hill is rumored to be in great shape. Today will also be a great day for hiking, as morning clouds give way to midday sun. If you really want to wear yourself out, head to Dog Mountain or try for the snow-covered peak of Mt. Defiance. Defy the 5000 foot elevation gain and earn yourself as much dessert as you want tonight!

Gorge freestyle ripper Rob Warwick (http://www.muegenburg.com/sailors/RobWarwick/RobWarwick.html) told me last year that my forecast is the most depressing forecast ever. I hope the upper level lows go away soon, or he's going to have to get on Prozac.

Have a good day everyone!
