Good morning sailors!
Fortunately we only have one more day of this upper-level-low-high-pressure-ridge combination that's been making forecasting so difficult.
Today brings another round of kite winds for the Gorge. By midday, wind speeds will hit the uninspiring 15-17 range under high clouds preceding an approaching cold front. This darn upper level low is preventing a solid gradient from developing.
Everything changes tonight and tomorrow. Overnight, a powerful cold front spreads across the state. It's so strong, actually, that temperatures will plummet across Oregon, instead of just west of the Cascades. Ahead of the front (overnight), winds climb to the 24-28 range in the desert. Not much help, I know. Tomorrow morning (behind the front), winds climb into the 25-29 range in the desert. Temperatures will be in the mid-sixties... bring a jacket.
Wednesday looks like the best day in the near future. High pressure awakens from its winter slumber and hauls itself to its summer position off the Oregon coast. This is a classic Gorge setup: high pressure west of us and low pressure to the east. Look for delicious winds (as delicious as cookies) in the 22-26 range.
Have a great day!
