Hello Sailors!
First Friday in Hood River brought the crowds out on the street this evening. It wasn't quite July, but there were a few parked cars topped with windsurfing gear. Speaking of windsurfing...
I stopped by the free beer Naish party at the English Pub. Several people told me that it's going to be windy this weekend, so I thought I'd do a forecast. According to the crowd, tomorrow will be very good and Saturday will be even better. That's for wind sports, not for mountain biking, sailboat racing, or skiing.
Here's what the models suggest: A weak, wimpy, lackluster front will crawl over Oregon tomorrow. Weak, wimpy, lackluster fronts don't have the power to drive strong, burly, nuclear force winds. We're looking at winds in the 22-26 range on Saturday afternoon after the front passes and high pressure builds in behind. Best bet is Doug's/Rowena/The Wall. If it's not raining in the morning, use the cool weather to take advantage of perfect mountain biking conditions.
High pressure rules the picture Sunday and Monday. Winds back off into potential wakeboarding range on Sunday, (more likely just enough wind to stir up the water) and increase a bit on Monday. With the high pressure and lack of wind, though, comes sunny weather. Think mountain biking. Think gardening. Think spring skiing. Meadows is still open, you know...
Have a great weekend!
