4.29 Frontal Forecast

Good morning sailors!

Mother Nature is playing with us. I swear. We're stuck in a winter weather pattern just two days before the beginning of May. Snowflakes falling on Mount Hood are upping the snowpack at a time when we should be seeing runoff and declining snowpack. This is just plain cuckoo.

And it makes a great excuse for not crafting perfect forecasts.

As you make have noticed, the brunt of yesterday's front passed overnight, leaving the best wind for those equipped with night vision goggles.

Today brings more of the same. Another front is headed our way, but it looks as if we'll see the best wind happen in the dark. The sound of wind in the trees and rain on the roof makes for a romantic evening. I suggest you get a movie, a bottle of wine, and a significant other today in lieu of chasing another front. If you want to sail, your best best is to stay east of the cloud line: The wind will start later than yesterday, so Doug's is your best bet before sundown. Mid-twenties is the call.

It's opening day of sailboat racing season tomorrow (that's Wednesday if you don't check your email every day). Starting time is 6:00, so be on the dock at 5:15 or so if you'd like to get on a boat. It's going to be cold, so dress warmly and expect to get wet. We'll see sailable westerlies in the 18-22 range for the race.

I think I'm going to bring a thermos of Spanish Coffees rather than my usual six pack of beer!

Oh... that wasn't the final "finally." If you want a chuckle, look at Mr. Defiance and remember that we're not supposed to plant our gardens until the snow is gone from that peak. We won't be planting until late June at this point. Unbelievable...

Have a great day!

Temira
