Good morning sailors!
Yesterday brought strange weather. Despite massive gradients (pdx-ast .11, pdx-dls .15, pdx-pdt .07, and n/s .36), wind never materialized on the surface. That happens a couple of times a year, and I've never been able to figure out the cause. We can make it the first cookie contest of the year!!! The person who brings me a weather model showing when winds will/will not mix to the surface gets cookies.
Yes, Councilman Babitz (he likes rabbits, you know), I know that I still owe you cookies. I will make them for you the next night I am at Abruzzo.
Anyway... It's windy at Arlington. Now, don't everyone rush out there right now. The back edge of the front is sitting over The Dalles right now, leading me to suspect a lull in windspeeds in about 2 hours. Check the gradients then, and if they're rising and it's still in the upper twenties or better, go.
Upper level flow is quite southerly. That tends to lower wind quality at the Wall and better it at Arlington. If anyone heads to Rufus today, please let me know how it was.
Keep in mind that the Highway 97 bridge is still closed (as far as I know), so if you want to sail the Washington side, you must cross at The Dalles or Hood River.
Tomorrow looks windy as well. An upper level low shifts across the PNW tomorrow, setting up strong westerly gradients once again. At this point, it looks like winds will blow from Doug's eastward, but maybe we'll get lucky with a corridor session.
Have a great day, and don't forget to ski in the morning both days to make it a double daily double!
