Christmas Day Stormy Forecast

Good Morning Sailors!

I hope Santa visited your home and left lots of good presents!

Better yet, I hope some of you (besides Jim and Steve) made it on the water for the Christmas Eve session. I tried, but it just wasn't windy enough for me to rig a 4.2 at Rufus. Too bad...

Anyway, this is a winter storm warning for those of you living in the Gorge or traveling I-84 tomorrow night. Although we're looking at west winds now, they'll switch overnight (it's 9pm on Christmas Eve), bringing cold desert air to the Gorge. High pressure in the desert (1034mb) will keep winds easterly all day, preventing temperatures from rising. As a front approaches (with almost an inch of precipitable rain - I found a new model today!) in the afternoon, snow will begin to fall. We may have to wait until nightfall for the snow to stick, but it's going to be a snowy hot tub night, either way!

As the front passes overnight, winds switch to westerly. With snow on the ground and temperatures in the balmy above-freezing range on Wednesday, we'll have great windsurfing and kiting photo ops (not to mention good wind out east). If temperatures stay low enough, we'll also get the first 7th Street sledding session of the year. I have two sleds, if anyone wants to join me!

We also have the potential for sailable northwesterly winds at the coast on Tuesday and Wednesday. It might be a bit onshore for fantastic conditions, but it'll be starboard tack with big waves. Sounds good to me!

Whatever you do Wednesday, don't forget to head to the Columbia Center for the Arts in Hood River for Joe's presentation of the movie Joyeaux Noel. Netflix viewers give this movie a 4.0 star rating, and Netflix has this to say:

"Inspired by a true story, this heartwarming tale unfolds on Christmas Eve, 1914, in the midst of World War I. As the French, Scottish and German soldiers prepare to open their presents, a momentous event occurs that changes the destinies of four people: an Anglican priest, a French lieutenant, a world-class tenor and his soprano lover."

Joe says it's good, and he's playing Run Lola Run next month. So... get out and support the film series so we can see more great foreign films on the big screen, without driving to Portland.

Merry Christmas, Happy Solstice, Good Kwanzaa, and a belated Happy Hanukah!

Temira
