Good Morning Sailors!
Without much wind in sight, it isn't always worth writing a forecast. Today, however, NOAA provided me with a gem worth sharing:
"CHRISTMAS DAY COULD BE WET...OR DRY."
That's what I call forecasting.
Now for a little hindcasting. Bill and I headed to Chinook yesterday to attempt some speedsailing. Despite dire predictions by NOAA, winds weren't strong enough to slog across the mudflats and attempt some high-speed windsurfing. Across the bay, at Clatsop Spit, winds were strong enough to send one lonely sailor flying along at 35 knots.
If you haven't seen speedsailing in person, it's worth carpooling out to watch sometime (or better yet, giving it a shot on my 5.0 or 6.0 Hot Sails Speedemons, up for public use).
Best chance for sailable wind over the weekend looks to be very early (in the dark) on the Oregon coast on Saturday morning.
On a lighter note (pun intended), the Winter Solstice is Saturday. Come out and celebrate the (shortest day of the year) return of daylight to our lives. Best party looks to be here: http://nwtekno.org/vb/showthread.php?threadid=121085&eventid=31247
Have a great day, everyone!
