Good morning sailors!
For those of you in the Gorge, I'd like to welcome you to the nastiest inversion so far this year. Fog clings to the high hills, and haze obscures the details of trees and houses across the river. Stevenson, however, basks under sunny skies this morning. Winds in the mid-twenties (with a .10 gradient) provide the perfect push for kiters and not-so-spoiled windsurfers. Am I spoiled? Yes. 30 mph is my minimum when it gets this cold. I go with the 120 rule: windspeed plus air temp plus water temp must equal 120.
As today goes on, east winds increase (weird, eh?), peaking overnight. By Monday morning, winds will be back in the teen-to-twenties range. By the time temperatures rise to the reasonable range, an approaching front will kill the east winds and fuel westerlies. Cold air trapped in the Gorge will make for unpleasant west wind conditions: possible freezing rain, sleet or snow will make for not-so-fun kiting and windsurfing (hey Richard and Vlado, want to try for snowy windsurfing pictures?).
Onshore flow continues through Tuesday.
Have a great day today!
Temira
