Good Morning Sailors,
It's becoming a tradition, the no-forecast Sunday. I'm not sure why that happens... It just seems to on a regular basis.
Rain drops from the deck above my window this morning, and the sound of tires on the freeway rings louder with water on the road. We're seeing the effects of a huge low pressure system off the coast. Unfortunately, we won't see much stable wind here in the Gorge. Windy places include anywhere with southern exposure: Coastal sites, Kalama, Tacoma and Seattle. With winds on the coast already in the 40g50 range, and huge swell, someone's got to be having some fun! According to NOAA:
THE STRONG WINDS WILL BRING LARGE SEAS TOO...SO THE HIGH
SURF ADVISORY CONTINUES TODAY AND TONIGHT. GETTING TOO CLOSE TO THE
SURF ZONE DURING THESE CONDITIONS CAN BE VERY HAZARDOUS OR EVEN
FATAL.
That means you!
Anyway, Seattlites, pack your cars and head to Richmond, Magnuson, Golden Gardens, and Alki.
Gorge people... wait for the cold front to approach later today (this rain is from a warm front). As it approaches, temperature and pressure gradients increase, giving us a shot at sailable winds. With flow ahead of the ULL (which is headed straight for Vancouver Island - Are you going sailing, Brad Drummond?) quite southerly, watch Avery, Doug's and Arlington. Please don't hold your breath, as you may asphyxiate before the wind gets here.
Tomorrow brings a bit of a break before we're slammed with another system on Wednesday.
Stay dry.
Stay out of lower Post Canyon today, if you can. It was getting pretty muddy there over the weekend, and the rain isn't going to help. If you must ride, try Hospital Hill.
FYI: snow levels will drop to 3500 overnight....
