Monday Forecast

I hope everyone made it out on the water yesterday! I sailed Arlington, where it was 3.7, and with the exception of 45 glorious minutes, flat like a pancake. (Pancakes sound delicious, by the way) I haven't checked the flow charts from the dams, but I'm guessing they just weren't letting out much water. Only one spill gate was open at John Day, and none at The Dalles. Without river flow, we don't get swells, and that's like pancakes without maple syrup.

Today looks like another windy day on the river. Have a good breakfast before you go out. Scrambled eggs, waffles, and of course, pancakes would be a good way to give yourself some needed energy. As the front clears Oregon (you saw the high clouds - like puffs of whip cream atop a pancake - and felt the rain from the front yesterday), cool air fills in behind. Upper level clouds dissipate, allowing the sun to send some warmth into the desert, where the dried grass is the color of pancakes. With Portland stuck under marine clouds, once again, we'll see enough heating for 23-26 in the central Gorge. Doug's/Rowena remains your best bet for today, but if the marine clouds back off, the Corridor will fill in as well. Upper level flow is NWerly, favoring the Hatchery, where, if you're lucky, someone might be cooking pancakes in their RV.

Tomorrow starts off in the 15ish range, with a decent marine push into Portland. Midday winds climb to the 23-26 range. Call it a carbon copy of today. Don't forget a nice pancake breakfast before you go out. You could even have "pigs in a blanket."

Wednesday sees less marine deck in Portland and a switch to northerly winds on the coast. Call it 21-23 in the Gorge, with gusty conditions under northerly upper flow. Late afternoon should bring 20-24 to mid-coast spots. Less winds call for less breakfast. Perhaps one pancake instead of two.

Have a great day on the water today!
