It's going to be a quick one today, as I have work to do!
Dawn Patrol! Yippee! With .14 to start the day and solid 4.2ish wind already (check hatchcam.com - nobody is out), it's going to be fun on the water today! Winds are already great, and will increase through midday to the 25-28 range. If you can avoid waiting for the after-work session, you should. Although NOAA calls for winds to increase as the day goes on, I suspect they will begin decreasing around 4ish. I'm making this conclusion based on the fact that flow is expected to turn offshore by the early morning hours. Also, as the day goes on, upper flow will turn more to the north, causing gustier conditions to develop at the Hatchery. As far as I know, there's not a site that's exempt from gustiness when flow turns due north. However, I'm open for input on that one. This is, after all, the first time this season that we've had northerly upper flow.
Saturday looks like a sure-fire coastal event. With a seven foot swell and small craft advisories (25 knots+) on the entire Oregon coast (plus a nuker alert at Florence), you can't go wrong by driving west. If you don't want to drive that far west, you can go to Stevenson and catch the beginnings of an easterly event. It's an event-filled Saturday! Stevenson should start out in the 20ish range, and winds won't die as the day goes on. Why not? Read on...
Come Sunday, we'll see strong east winds, maybe even strong enough to get me on the water! Upper twenties is the call right now.
Okay, I've got to go finish up some work so I can hit the water!
Have a great day!
