Weekend Wind Forecast

We're about to test a theory: Is it possible to put out an accurate Gorge forecast from somewhere other than the Gorge?

That's right - I'm in Pistol River, where it blew overpowered 3.7 yesterday and promises to do the same today!

I'm afraid the Gorge picture isn't so pretty. A .03 gradient and limited marine clouds give Hood River a jump on the wind game today. However, with Portland headed for a steamy 85 degree peak temperature, thermals won't have much support. Look for 15-18 for much of the day. Evening winds should climb a little higher at Doug's and Rowena, to the 18-22 range.

The blanket high shifts east overnight, allowing a low pressure trough to move into the PNW. Associated marine clouds crush Portland temperatures overnight, bringing damp air into the metro area. With desert temps remaining in the 60's, watch for possible dawn patrol. Morning Corridor winds hang in the 21-24 range. Tomorrow's real push comes in the afternoon. A cold front, and its high clouds move over western Oregon in the afternoon, keeping Portland temps down. Look for Doug's/Rowena winds to jump to 23-27 from thermal support. Keep an eye on desert sites, especially the Wall, towards evening. If marine and frontal clouds push into Hood River, The Wall and Arlington could be good fun.

Sunday sees the cloudy remains of this frontal system hanging over Hood River. It's hard to tell wind strength at this point, but there will be sailable winds. More details to follow!

Alrighty. It's time to go check out the South Jetty.

You kids have a fantastic day in the Gorge. I missed you yesterday!
