Gray skies and soothing sounds of dripping rain kept your fearless forecaster in bed late today!
Over half an inch of rain fell overnight, fueling Post Canyon fever. Jump on your bike and ride today: every trail will be great! Plus, you'll get muddy, and mud is fun!
As for windsurfing... Gorge towns and everything else close to here at latitude 45.71N is hanging out right underneath the jet stream. Fortunately for the bikers, and not so great for the windsurfers, the jet stream contains a massive, tropical moisture-filled front. Another half-inch of rain plans to escape the sky and fall on us over the next 24 hours. Look for the best chance of winds to follow the passage of this front, probably overnight or in the early morning hours tomorrow. Frontal passages prove problematic; wind blows for a few hours only, requiring preemptive driving.
Tomorrow, despite high pressure building along the coast, looks like a wakeboarding day. High pressure also hangs in eastern Oregon, hurting wind development. Get out your ski boat or your mountain bike, because conditions will remain epic for both. We may (unlikely) see an afternoon thermal breeze, but this depends on the eastern high disappearing. 50/50?
High pressure fills across the state Tuesday, fueling the Columbia Riversweeper Zamboni. No pressure gradients = no wind. Wakeboarding weather again.
That's it for now, kids. Apologies for being a wind pessimist.
Have a great day in the rain. Don't forget to turn off your sprinkler systems - wasting water is no good!
