I get the feeling many of you are still in bed, recovering from the last week of sailing. I just woke up, and I'm trying something new today: drinking coffee while I forecast.
Today brings more wind. Sandy Doug's and rocky Rowena take the broad edge of Mother Nature's sword again, trees bending in submission to more 25-28+ winds this afternoon. All this wind with low pressure along the coast. Amazing! Portland predictions suggest city clouds will take a hike this afternoon, letting downtown guys and gals catch a tan. If this happens, 30+ winds take a rest, leaving Gorge sailors on 3.7-4.2 instead of 2.8-3.2. Eastern Gorge sets up as well, with a late 25-28 push. If you're like me, you'll be keeping an eye on Arlington, hoping I underforecasted.
Friday's marine push puts today's marine effort to shame. Drizzle drips on Portland umbrellas, Cascade Locks catches sprinkles, and clouds coalesce over Hood River. Winds focus east of HR once again: Doug's, Maryhill, Avery, Celilo, Murdoch, Blalock Canyon, Philippi Canyon, Rufus, The Wall, etc etc, etc. With the approach of the North Pacific High, upper level flow turns less southerly, favoring The Wall over Celilo,Avery,Mosier. Interestingly, MM5 suggests light winds tomorrow. That makes no sense, as pressures climb in Portland compared to today. MM5 suggestion: bye-bye. (you can remind me of that tomorrow if I change the call). Anyway, head east for 24-28. Again.
Saturday forecasts predict more sun in Portland and more heat in the desert. Models also suggest light wind. I don't think light is the call, but winds will back down. 18-22 looks like the call (subject to change).
Now, I have to berate you guys a little. Every week I tell you about the Wednesday night sailboat races, and none of you ever show up. It's fun, I tell you. Don't you trust me by now?
Alrighty. I'm already running behind today, so I'm outa here.
Have an awesome day on the water. Bake cookies and take them to the beach with you, for distribution to your hungry beachmates.
