What happened today?

That was a pleasant surprise! Just when I thought my forecasting was dead on, Cheap Beach went from 4.2 to 3.2. Good news for us, bad news for my accuracy rating.

A deeper than expected marine layer failed to burn off as expected. Instead of temps hitting 80 in Portland, they maxed out in the low to mid 70's. In addition, a front that wasn't supposed to cross the state did, deepening the marine layer in early afternoon.

For what it's worth, the MM5 called for very weak winds today. It is calling for stronger winds tomorrow and Tuesday, but I think Wednesday could be an Eastern Gorge ripper. Watch for dawn patrol tomorrow morning.

With the trough continuing to send weak shortwaves over us, accurate predictions become difficult. Needless to say, it will remain windy, but the timing of frontal ramp-ups is hard to predict.

Keep your small gear in the car this week!
