Good Morning Sailors!
It's a miracle I'm up already, after enjoying the company of my good friends Reckless and Jose (that's Cuervo) last night. But I couldn't let you guys down, you see.
After all, none of you can look out the window and see that it's blowing 20+ in the Corridor, again!
So, we're starting the day with a .09 gradient and marine clouds in the tube. Zooming out presents us with a picture more complicated than the normal Gorge setup. The North Pacific High (our best friend) is actually blocked by an open trough of low pressure hanging out over the coast. Winds are blowing now only because there's a a strong upper level low over Montana, keeping surface pressures over Idaho and eastern Oregon very low. Please don't let your eyes glaze over. Believe it or not, we now have to thank, yes thank, the upper level low for keeping us sailing! Anyway... afternoon thermal support will fight the low trough, but I don't see epic conditions developing. Winds hang out in the 20-24 range for most of the day, fading towards afternoon. MM5 says they'll turn east, but I have more faith in the Gorge than that.
Tomorrow presents a similar picture. Desert heat and morning clouds in Portland give 18-22 to start. Winds hang in the 19-23 range for most of the day, as the trough beats the NPH back from the coast.
Monday wind situation remains unclear, as the trough makes a move across Oregon. More than likely, winds will be very light. However, if the NPH heads for Portland in the wake of the trough's passing, things could get interesting.
Okay. I know that wasn't an example of brilliant writing or forecasting, but I've got to work now.
One last thing: Nobody came through with cookies for Denise yesterday, so here's the ad again. However, she now wants only 2 cookies in exchange for the rounds of golf. You will have to give her 4, though, as I want 2 for myself! Here's the ad:
For those of you who made it this far, we have a contest, courtesy of Denise from Gorge Central Vacation rentals. Gorge Central has the best selection of awesome Hood River getaways, and the best housekeepers, for making sure you get into a sparkling clean and hair-free home!!! (That's not their wording - it's mine! Denise runs an awesome show and I'm giving her a hard time because she's a) my friend and b) on this list!) Denise has donated the following prize to the first person to bring her 4 homemade or New York Subs chocolate chip cookies:
Up for grabs! 4 rounds - 18 holes at Indian Creek M-F or after 1 PM on weekends, golf cart included. Expires Sept 1st.
Here's the deal: If you call her at 541-490-7368 to claim the prize, you must deliver the cookies by 9pm tonight. If you don't, the contest will run again tomorrow. There's no sneakiness here... no calling and not delivering. I want you sweating in the kitchen over those cookies while it's blowing at the Hatch! =)
Okay. I've got to make a home hair-free for Denise now, so I'm signing off. Have a great day on the water!!!
